All the hassle of food sticking to the great and falling between them, and the scrubbing to clean afterward are gone. They are super fun and easy to use. 

You can cook anything from pancake to quesadilla to a cheeseburger or even chow mein. The only rule is that You have to clean your griddle after every time you use it. If you don’t, the griddle will get nasty. The grime will get so sticky over time that no matter what you do, it won’t come off. Gone are the happy days you used to cook outdoors.

Don’t get me wrong, Blackstone griddle is super easy to clean. Cleaning a Blackstone griddle is the same as cleaning a cast iron pan since the griddle is made of cast iron steel. If you follow these basic few steps, your griddle is destined to have a long life.

How to clean the black Stone griddle

No soap is needed except when you are using it for the first time or you are planning to use it after a very long time. Otherwise, just clean food residue after cooking and season it. The main point is to save the griddle from grime and rust.

Seasoning

Heating a Blackstone griddle with oil is called seasoning. It helps to avoid rust build-up. It is a very easy process and is done at the end every time it is used. Any cooking oil can be used for this process.

  • Add a little oil to the surface. 
  • Wipe extra oil with a kitchen towel.
  • Heat till the griddle is smoking hot.
  • Cool.
  • Repeat 2 times more if the surface is cleaned with soapy water before seasoning.

Cleaning with soap

It is recommended to clean the griddle with soap if it is being used for the first time to wash away all the chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Also if it is used after a very long time and dust has built on it. Or if you forget to clean it after cooking on it and grime has gotten very sticky. You can use any dishwashing detergent or any degreasing reagent.

  • Have a bucket of water with a spoonful of detergent.
  • Rub all surfaces with soap water using a microfibre cloth.
  • Clean the detergent residue with clean water.
  • Dry.
  • Season with oil.

 Clean up after every use

  • Just scrape off the food gunk and grime using a metal scraper.
  • Wipe with a kitchen towel.
  • Season with oil.

If some gunk is still left and you cannot scrape it with the scrapper then:

  • Pour some water on the hot griddle.
  • Scrape with a scraper.
  • Wipe with a paper towel.
  • Season with oil.

How to clean rusty black stone griddle

Sometimes, even if you are cautiously cleaning and seasoning your griddle, it still gets rusty. Especially if you have your griddle near the sea or somewhere humid. It is very easy to clean the rust. You just have to use a little elbow grease and repeat till it is squeaky clean. Heat-resistant gloves are recommended because you have to push hard to scrape rust, your hand might slip and get burned.

  • Heat griddle for 20  minutes.
  • Scrape with a scrapper or lightly with steel wool.
  • Wipe clean with a kitchen towel.
  • Repeat till no rust is seen.
  • Season 3 times to ensure it is well seasoned to avoid rusting in the future.
